Safety First: Climb safer, climb better

In 2023, there will once again be plenty of exciting climbing camps in Tirol where you can improve your climbing skills. Whether it’s sport climbing, Bouldering or Via Ferrata/Iron Way, and whether you’re a Beginner or an Advanced climber – you’ll find what you’re looking for here!

With the first warm rays of sunshine, the outdoor season is kicking off once again. Rock climbing is finally back in season – and is all the rage. These are two factors that increase the risk of accidents, as the rules are completely different out on the rock than they are indoors. Anyone who feels their rock-climbing skills have become a bit rusty, or who wants to gain their first outdoor experience, is best advised to brush up on their knowledge in a course.

1. SAAC climbing camps

The SAAC Mountain Guides are experts in all forms of climbing and, at the outdoor climbing camps, demonstrate what really matters (in terms of safety).

Information: An SAAC climbing camp lasts 1.5 days and comprises a theoretical and a practical part. The course is aimed at people aged 14 and over and is free of charge (in exceptional cases, travel costs may apply). Dates are available from May to October in various areas of Tirol on the SAAC website. Registration is now open – be quick and don’t miss out on this opportunity!

6. Via Ferrata/Iron Way camps

Via Ferrata/Iron Way are popular, and the barriers to entry are low. Unfortunately, however, as demand has risen, so too have the number of accidents and mountain rescues. To promote greater safety and awareness of the risks involved, there is now a growing range of courses on offer.

Achensee Via Ferrata Camp: The 4-day Achensee Via Ferrata Camp (15–18 June 2023) brings you the best tips and tricks from the pros – and a whole new kind of summit thrill! It’s no coincidence that the Achensee region is one of Tyrol’s most popular climbing areas. A highlight is the 5-Peak Via Ferrata/Iron Way, one of the longest Via Ferratas in Austria.

climbhow Ferrata – Fit for Via Ferrata/Iron Way: On 11 and 12 August, the two-day climbhow Ferrata will take place in the Muttekopf area near Imst.

7. Alpine climbing camps

Far away from crowded Rock Climbing Areas, high up in the mountains, where you’re roped together with just your climbing partner: alpine climbing is the pinnacle of the sport. This terrain is off-limits to quite a few people, as it takes a great deal of experience to be truly safe in the alpine terrain. If you’re thinking of giving it a go, it’s best to take a course with an experienced Mountain Guide. Better safe than sorry!

Alpine climbing course at the Wilder Kaiser (for beginners): A 3-day climbing course in one of the most breathtaking alpine climbing areas of all. Dates in June, July and September, or on request. Participants learn how to set up belay stations, rope techniques, commands and much more.

Climbing Camp goes Alpine: The Climbing Camp team also offers various Multi-Pitch Climbing courses: ‘Multi-Pitch Climbing’, ‘Alpine Climbing’ and ‘Portable Belay Devices’. Check it out!
