The Pitztal Valley: 40 kilometres of alternative routes

On hot days, the choice of Rock Climbing Areas quickly becomes limited. However, there are a few areas that are particularly good at precisely such times – and some of them are in thePitztal valley.

The 40-kilometre-long southern side valley of the Inn Valley is not only the Starting Point for climbing the Wildspitze (3,768 m, Tyrol’s highest mountain) – it also has plenty to offer in the height of summer. We’re showcasing one area each for advanced climbers, Families and Bouldering.

1. Unterwelt – in the shade all day, routes with lots of bouldering

The Unterwelt Rock Climbing Area is in the shade all day, so it stays cool even on hot days. Many routes also stay dry for longer when it rains.

  • Character: predominantly bouldering
  • Suitable for: Advanced and experienced climbers
  • Plus: shade all day long, stays dry for longer in the rain

2. Mittelberg Gletscherstube – just under 50 tours for Families

The west-facing Mittelberg Gletscherstube Rock Climbing Area offers just under 50 routes, all of which are very child- and Family friendly. Thanks to its high altitude, it is often pleasantly cool here – and the Gletscherstube is right next door for a bite to eat.

3. Mandler’s Ground – Bouldering in the shady woods

The Mandlers Boden bouldering area is situated in the heart of a shady forest. The boulders are all numbered and labelled, whilst a large clearing with a picnic area in the centre is the perfect spot to take a break.

Getting there: best via the Inntal motorway, taking the Imst exit. The Pitztal is also easily accessible by train and bus.
