What a brilliant rock climbing arena: at an altitude of 2,000 metres, you’ll rarely feel like you’re boiling in the‘Hexenkessel’ – but your forearms will certainly be burning all the more.
The higher Levels of Difficulty dominate here; even the grade 6 and 7 routes are no walk in the park on this compact granite gneiss. You’ll need to put in a bit of time on the approach, but the alpine atmosphere is simply fantastic.
Something a bit more relaxed: the short access and an impressive number of grade 5 and 6 routes make the Unterwelt Rock Climbing Area a worthwhile destination for beginners – even if the routes have a reputation for being graded on the stinging side.
Its shady location in the woods makes the ‘Unterwelt’ the perfect Finishing Point for the summer months.
And now for something really cosy. Thanks, Richi, for discovering this small but lovely climbing wall: Richi’s Wall is situated right next to a meadow beside a waterfall, making it a great destination for families.
If it gets too warm at any point, the Stillebach is not far away. And you’re sure to find an ice cream somewhere as a treat.
Because it doesn’t always have to be harder or higher: the Mandlers Boden bouldering area takes a different approach – it aims to be a cosy destination for family outings.
Many of the cleared boulders in this mossy fairytale forest are on the smaller side, which suits budding young boulderers. Access is also manageable, and in the centre there’s a cosy picnic spot with plenty of space to run about.
But there are also plenty of challenges for keen climbing mums and dads: the difficulty range goes up to 8a.
