Climbing thrives on interaction – with friends and other climbers on the rock. Sometimes it’s lovely to be out and about undisturbed with just your climbing partner. And yet it’s deeply fulfilling to share experiences, get to know new people and motivate one another. On the crags around the Kufsteinerland region, there’s a wide variety of groups – sometimes you know each other well, sometimes only by sight. So it’s time to bring the community closer together and encourage interaction away from the crags as well.
To this end, the first ‘Climbers Coffee’ took place at the Kaiseraufstieg. Organised by Max Buck and Lina Schneeweiß, over 30 climbers gathered to enjoy a warm cup of coffee and some cake. Mira Herzberger presented the new climbing guide ‘München Rockt’: it focuses exclusively on crags that are easily accessible by public transport. Those collecting climate-friendly Ecopoints are guided to the Starting Point as if on rails and to the crag via downloadable GPX tracks.
A similar project exists for Climbers Paradise in the form of the sustainable climbing guide “Climate-Friendly Climbing in Tyrol” by Lena Müller. Furthermore, Climbers Paradise Tyrol has been focusing on “Climbing with Respect” for the past two years – with initiatives promoting sustainable climbing throughout Tyrol.
There was a lively discussion with everyone present about the “Ecopoint Climbing” concept and new opportunities in the Inn Valley. Afterwards, most of the group headed to the Geisterschmiedwand – one of the most beautiful sport climbing areas in the Kufsteinerland region. From midday onwards, a few rays of sunshine even ensured perfect climbing conditions.
The event was supported by the Platzhirsch coffee roastery in Kufstein. Thanks to everyone who came along and makes the community so unique and vibrant. To be continued!
Lina Schneeweiß, 27, works as an events manager in the Kufsteinerland region. She started climbing in the Elbe Sandstone Mountains – since moving to Kufstein, she has discovered just how much fun shorter distances between bolts make sport climbing. And what the Wilde Kaiser, right on her doorstep, has to offer in terms of alpine routes.
Max Buck, 28, is a student at Rosenheim University of Applied Sciences and enjoys alpine, trad and sport climbing in and around Kufstein. As a photographer, he aims to showcase different aspects of the climbing community and give every climber the chance to capture a moment from their own routes and projects.
