An alpine multi-pitch climbing area at Weißsee in the Kaunertal, featuring high-quality gneiss and an impressive high-mountain backdrop. The “Abendrot” route offers enjoyable pleasure climbing—additional routes are in the planning stages.
The multi-pitch climbing area at Weißsee in the Kaunertal is currently under development and already offers a rewarding alpine climbing route in stunning surroundings. The “Abendrot” route, established by Georg Larcher and Theresa Tomelitsch in 2025, runs through compact, high-quality gneiss and features varied, well-protected climbing.The route consists of two sections separated by a walking section and has a total length of 269 meters. Throughout the ascent, you can enjoy a magnificent view of the Weißsee. At the exit, an impressive panorama opens up with a direct view of the Weißseespitze (3,498 m) and the surrounding high-mountain landscape.
Thanks to solid protection with stainless steel bolts and established belay stations, the route is ideal for recreational climbers with alpine experience. Despite its easy accessibility via the Kaunertal Glacier Road, the area remains pleasantly quiet and offers great potential for future development.

- Take the train to Landeck-Zams Station
- Continue by local bus to the Kaunertal valley until the Weißsee bus stop
- From the bus stop, it’s about a 10-minute walk to the trailhead

Journey
To get there, take the Kaunertal and the Kaunertal Glacier Road to Weißsee. The road is tolled, but offers a spectacular high-mountain drive up to over 2,700 meters above sea level.
From there, it’s just a few minutes’ walk to the starting point of the “Abendrot” route.

- Parking is available directly at the Weißsee parking lot along the Kaunertal Glacier Road
