Given that this is a full-day tour, it’s recommended to start after an overnight stay at the Anton-Karg-Haus or the Hans-Berger-Haus. The north-facing orientation of the route requires stable good weather and dry conditions.

The Kaiserschützensteig is a long, alpine via ferrata with difficulty ratings of B/C and 1+. Not all sections of the route are secured with cables, and you’ll frequently find yourself in unsecured hiking terrain. Absolute surefootedness and a head for heights are essential. The approach to the via ferrata and the descent from the summit of Ellmauer Halt should not be underestimated either.While the via ferrata itself does not directly lead to the summits of Kleine Halt and Gamshalt, they can be easily included along the way. The reward for the effort is breathtaking scenic views amidst the rugged peaks of the Wilder Kaiser.

Access
The access leads from the Hans-Berger-Haus via the marked Gamsängersteig 813 to the beginning of the upper Schärlingerboden (a wide, flat cirque). On the left side is the entrance to the Kaiserschützensteig.
Descent
The descent from the Ellmauer Halt leads along the marked Gamsängersteig. Before the "Jägerwandtreppe" you branch off to the right and via the Rote Rinn Scharte it goes over the Schärlingerböden to the north-west back to the Hans-Berger-Haus.

Parking
Via the Inntal motorway to Kufstein, take the Kufstein Nord exit. At the roundabout take the 3rd exit in the direction of Ebbs. Follow the road and at the 2nd crossing turn right into the district Sparchen (Kaiseraufstieg).
At the Kaiseraufstieg, there is a large parking area that can also be used for multi-day stays (fee applies). Multi-day tickets are available at the Base Camp Harmonie.
