Via ferratas in Tannheim Valley, “Europe’s most beautiful high valley”

Tannheim Valley is known for its beautiful peaks such as Gimpel, Hochwiesler and Rote Flüh. This area is home to routes of all difficulties and beautiful via ferratas. Tannheim Valley offers several sport climbing routes, multi pitches, two waterfalls for ice climbing and a high rope garden. The 200m high Southern walls were established around 1900. Although most of these old routes are well maintained, there are many alpine routes in Tannheim Valley. The valley is very versatile and has a lot to offer: Besides rock climbing, you can do all different kind of sports such as hiking, mountain biking, cycling. You can also simply enjoy your time outside in nature.

Via ferratas in Tannheim Valley – limestone walls for beginners and experts

  • Friedberger via ferrata: The Friedberger via ferrata is perfect for beginners. It is easy to climb and offers a great panorama view on top. You can take the cable car at the Füssener Jöchle mountain to save time for the long ascent and descent. After the ascent, you can stop by at the Tannheimer Hütte hut or the Gimpelhaus hut. The via ferrata faces South and East. Even though it is well secured, you shouldn’t ascent it when it’s wet.
  • Lachenspitze Nordwand via ferrata: If you have enough power and endurance, this via ferrata is absolutely magnificent! Surefootedness, good arm power and a head for heights are mandatory for this beautiful, mostly vertical via ferrata. The surrounding scenery is beautiful and the view onto three lakes is simply stunning. The descent leads past the Landsberger Hütte hut which is close to the starting point of the via ferrata.
  • Südsporn via ferrata onto the Köllenspitze peak: Those who to stand on the highest mountain peak of the Tannheim Mountains can climb the Südsport via ferrata onto the Köllenspitze peak. This via ferrata requires a lot of endurance, power and experience. There are several vertical passages and exposed traverses. However, the view on top onto the surrounding mountains is simply stunning and absolutely worthwhile.
