An impressive, not too difficult gorge via ferrata route has been developed which proceeds along the Pirkner Bach, at the eastern foot of the Hochstadel mountain. The highlight of this path is the steep section at the first fortifications – next to the rushing waterfalls – when the sun shines the spray creates a rainbow! Numerous 'Postmans Walk' bridges (tight rope and slack rope) provide an additional thrill. Due to the short ascent and descent, this is an ideal activity for a morning or afternoon.
Please note – tackling the gorge can prove very dangerous in the event of sudden drops in temperature and when there are flood waters! On no account should you leave the via ferrata route and do not climb on the fortifications (very slippery – with a risk of falling).
From the car park at the bridge in Unterpirkach (4 km to the east of Oberdrauburg) at the left side of the river to an old mill - the via ferrata route starts right behind the mill.
After the second fortification, head up along the steep path (steel cables)
Vom Parkplatz bei der Brücke in Unterpirkach (4 km westlich von Oberdrauburg - Kärnten) ausgehend folgt man der linken Bachseite bis zu einer alten Mühle. Dahinter beginnt gleich der Klettersteig.
