Innsbruch und seine Feriendörfer

Wank Via Ferrata

🄱
Description

The ascent of the Wankspitze via the Wank alpine via ferrata demands excellent basic fitness, endurance and strength and also experience in using via ferratas. The ascent begins with a lovely hike up to the Lehnberghaus and on to the head of the valley, the so-called "Hölle". At the "großer Stein" (big stone) you swap to the mountain trail on the western side. The lower part crosses gravelly terrain across a scree slope, then on a good mountain trail over several sharp bends up to the Stöttltörl.

This is where you put on your via ferrata equipment (harness, set, helmet) and heading south for about 50 metres you come to the entrance to the Wank via ferrata. The via ferrata continuously follows the steep pitch with its bizarre crags and towers, constantly undulating, up to the summit of the Wankspitze, an outlier of the Mieminger Kette chain.

During the ascent, fantastic views of the Mieming Plateau, Inntal valley, Gurgltal valley and the surrounding mountains with the rugged rocks of the Mieminger Kette open up again and again. Even the descent has it all because you follow the hiking trail from a height of 2,209 m via the "Lacke" vantage point and the managed Lehnberghaus back to the starting point at the Arzkasten car park (1,151 m) with an elevation loss of 1,000 metres. Due to the nature of the entire tour, it’s recommended that you only attempt it in good weather.
