Multi pitch climbing in the in den Steinberge mountains – sublime mountain experience

The Steinberge mountain area in the Tirol-Salzburg border region offers great climbing opportunities, especially for climbers who love to spend their holidays on rock and get great value on their trip. The Loferer and Leogang Mountains have a lot to offer: from family-friendly climbing gardens, ten challenging via ferratas, more than 1.000 sport climbing routes and numerous alpine multi pitches. The route „Pinzgawurm“ (45 pitches) is one of the longest alpine sport climbing routes. There are several climbing guides and manuals which can help inform you about the area. 3 tips for multi pitch routes in the Steinberge mountains

  • Central Steinplatte:The central Steinplatte area is very popular among the climber scene. The walls are up to 150m high and there are about 100 multi pitch routes ranging from grade 4 to 10. During the past years, many new routes were well equipped with bolts and old classic routes were refurbished. It’s best to climb between May to November.
  • Urlkopf, Plaisir-Wandl: The multi pitch routes on the Urlkopf mountain are well secured in steep and solid rock. The area is therefore also called “Verdon of Tirol/ Salzburg”. It is located above the Strubtal valley on an altitude level of 1.000m. On the other side, you can see the 1.800m high Northern walls of the Loferer Steinberge mountains. It’s best to climb between May to November.
  • Brantl (Wieslochzapfen): The Brantl climbing garden on the Wiesloch mountain is a magnificent area with about 20 multi pitch routes. There are also easier routes such as the routes “Iltis” (South-Western ledge) und “Südostwandl”. It’s best to climb between May to October.
