Family-friendly climbing gardens around Imst

The Imst holiday region in the Tirolean Oberland is known for its numerous outdoor opportunities for climbing, mountain biking, hiking, rafting and canyoning. It particularly offers many unique climbing possibilities. It is one of Austria’s top climbing spots, providing more than 3.000 sport climbing routes in all difficulties for climbers of all levels - beginners, hobby climbers and pros. The crags are in great condition as they have been well maintained and further developed over the past few years. Austria’s highest climbing wall is also located in Imst.

If you don’t walk to hike down the mountain into the valley, the Alpine Coaster roller coaster takes you back to the base of the mountain in high speed. This is for sure a memorable experience!

These 4 climbing gardens in the Imst holiday region are highly recommended to families!

  • Imst/ Kofnertal climbing garden: This small and well secured climbing garden is located on 1.100m and recommended to the whole family. It was established in 2014 by pupils of the sport middle school in Imst, supervised by their teacher Werner Nothdurfter. The access hike takes 10 minutes.
  • Imst/ Putzen climbing garden: The Putzen climbing garden in Imst provides routes with a total length between 15 and 32m. It is highly recommended to beginners and children. It is idyllically located next to a waterfall in the Putzenwald forest. There is a wooden platform for picnicking and relaxing. The access hike takes 15 minutes.
  • Nassereith – Botanischer Garten climbing garden: The Botanischer Garten climbing garden can be reached within a 10 minute walk. It is located on 900m of altitude and was re-established in 2007. Deer crossing above the routes can increase the danger of rockfall.
  • Tarrenz/Walchenbach climbing garden: Climbing in the Walchenbach climbing garden in Tarrenz guarantees a fun experience for the whole family. The climbing garden was particularly established for children. Of course, it is also recommended to beginners. The routes are perfectly secured with bolts and have a total length between 5 and 15m. The access hike takes 5 minutes. There is also a picnic area with seating possibilities for up to 10 people.
