Spending a holiday in the Achensee region is a unique experience: surrounded by the imposing Tirolean mountain world, you still feel like you’re on a beach holiday. Both climbers and mountain lovers will get their money’s worth. The area is stunningly beautiful and offers breathtaking impressions far beyond climbing. The area stays cool - even on hot summer days.

In the past few years, many new certified climbing gardens have been opened which are also convenient for families with children. The routes are well secured and the rock is solid. The breathtaking views of the Achensee lake is absolutely worthwhile.

4 tips for family-friendly climbing gardens:

  • Grubaplatte climbing garden: The Grubaplatte climbing garden consists of a beautiful slab on the way to the Rofanspitze mountain peak which is perfectly suitable for children and beginners. The grades are moderate and ideal to get used to slab climbing.
  • Grubastiege climbing garden: The Grubastiege climbing garden offers seven well secured routes up to 15m high and in moderate difficulty. You’ll find this area on the way to the Rofanspitze mountain peak where you will also find fantastic rock quality.
  • Mauritzalm climbing garden: This little climbing garden, close to the Mauritzalm mountain hut, has four short routes up to 8m high. As the routes are very easy (grade 3 to 4), they are very suitable for beginners and children. It is also an ideal place to train your rope technique.
  • Platzl climbing garden: The little Platzl climbing garden between the Grubastiege and Grubaplatte climbing gardens offers easy routes up to 20m high which are ideal for children and beginners. It’s particularly recommended for children who learn to lead climb their first routes.
