The boulder blocks of Galtür are worth a trip - not only since Memento by Bernd Zangerl. The area is beautifully situated at the foot of the Ballunspitze and due to the altitude, pleasant temperatures prevail even in high summer. In the bouldering area you can find 445 boulder routes in a total of 195 blocks, of any difficulty. Of course, the pure challenge is "Anam Cara" with 8c. But everything is represented here - beginner-friendly friction slabs, technical cracks and far overhanging roofs!

The equally ingenious and impressive Silvapark in Galtür, located at the foot of the Ballunspitze, is an absolute bouldering highlight with its 14 sectors, and not just for kids. Always at your back: the breathtaking mountain landscape of the Silvretta Mountains.

Ascent with the chairlift "Birkhahnbahn" (free of charge for Silvretta Card Premium owners), then a short walk on foot. Alternatively ascent with the car to the parking spot at the Ballunspitzbahn (limited parking, fee-based)

With the railway station in Landeck, the Paznaun is optimally connected to the Austrian train network. From Landeck-Zams station, only a short bus ride separates you from the Paznaun. Every half hour, line bus 260 runs from there through the valley.

03 Sector "Anam Cara"

The approach to the “Anam Cara“ sector takes about 20 minutes. The area is named after the “Anam Cara” boulder problem. According to ancient Celtic mythology, the name translates to “soulmate”. The route was first completed in 2007 by accomplished Tyrolean boulderer Bernd Zangerl. Today, it is still one of the most popular routes of the bouldering scene. “British Airways“ and “Pretty Belinda” (both rated 8A) are two of the most iconic extreme bouldering routes.

In the “Outlands” sector, you can find the classic routes “Kolibri” and “Skiroute 4”, both of them extremely popular with avid boulderers. Just above the main boulders, there is another amazing, slightly hidden boulder problem: “The Pinch” rated 8A+. The approach takes about 45 minutes.

The “Golden Gate” sector is only about five minutes from the “Palm Beach” boulder area. It is named after the two-moves boulder problem “Golden Gate” (8B). The slightly rocky area boasts more than 40 lines, most of them of medium difficulty. Some of the most popular routes are “Creme Brûlée”, “Double Trouble” and “Atompilz”.

After about 40 minutes, you reach the “Palm Beach” sector, which offers stunning views. It has been a popular bouldering spot for many years. Must-tries include the lines “Memento”, “Razor Blade Junior”, “Shining”, “X-ray” and the “Beach Boulder”. In addition, boulder fans can find several other cool routes rated up to 7A there.

The “Supercrack” sector can be reached after a 35-minute approach. It is one of Silvapark’s largest boulder areas, featuring a selection of popular classics and tough challenges with ratings up to 8A. The views and the special atmosphere you enjoy there will make you want to climb every single boulder, even though some of them lie a bit apart. At the slightly hidden “Poserblock”, you can usually find photographers and fascinated spectators trying to capture that perfect shot.

The “Falsche Götter” sector is located right below Ballunspitze, at more than 2,300 metres above sea level. Once you have mastered Silvapark’s longest approach (about one hour), you are rewarded with spectacular views. To master the area’s arguably most exciting boulder – “Falsche Freunde” (8A) – you will probably need a few attempts.

The bouldering history of Galtür started on the rocks right behind Faulbrunnalm. The first lines of the “Sektensektor” sector were already created about 23 years ago. Today, the area boasts more than 100 boulder problems ranging in difficulty from easy to challenging. There is a separate area for children and beginners. Popular routes include “Zu jung, um zu sterben”, “Niviuk” and “Thor”. If you need a break, you can kick back in the chill-out area or take a dip in the small lake.

The rocky terrain of the “Jamrock” sector was one of the last to be developed. After a short approach, boulder fans can find a vast number of attractive lines there. This sector’s highlight is the “Golden Daze” boulder rated 8B+. To date, famous climber Toby Saxton has been the only one to master this challenging boulder. The western part of this area is located inside a hunting zone, where bouldering is prohibited.

The small and charming “Lahnenberg” sector boasts some truly amazing boulder problems that are only waiting for accomplished climbers to tackle them. The fact that the routes were only established fairly recently makes this area all the more popular. All in all, this sector doesn’t have many boulders, but especially those sections with a lower difficulty rating feature some quite challenging lines.

The rocks of the “Schuh des Manitu” sector have been a popular bouldering area for quite some time. The majority of lines were first completed by the members of “Sportklettergruppe Arlberg”. Once you have mastered the boulder problems at the start, a small footpath takes you to even more boulders. If you want to put your finger strength to the test, you should try the “Flashface” boulder rated 7C. The sector is named after the “Schuh des Manitu” route, which you reach after a 30-minute approach.

Over the past years, several technical problems were established there, all of them requiring dexterity and good footwork. High above Galtür, lots of hidden boulder problems are waiting for you in the “Ballun” sector. The area is not fully developed yet – so there’s still a chance of a first ascent. Local climber Toby Saxton was the first to complete the extremely challenging “Lechyd da” boulder with a rating of 8C there.
