Olympia region Seefeld

Climbing in the mountain range Karwendelgebirge

Climbing has been tradition in Seefeld in the mountain range Karwendelgebirge since 1922. Pioneers of climbing like Bernhard Prommer, Reini Scherer, Heinz Zak and Bernhard Hangl opened many via ferratas and climbing gardens. A very popular crag for sport climbing is e. g. the “Chinesische Mauer”. While this area is mainly for experienced climbers, “Mauerbogen” offers many climbs for beginners and hobby climbers. For an eventful family climbing day the climbing area Flämenwandl or the new climbing garden Sonnenplatten in Scharnitz is best suited.

The climbing gardens have been regularly maintained by the Austrian Alpine Club “Mauerfix”. Visit their homepage for more information about climbing and maintainance.

Olympia region Seefeld

The Olympia region Seefeld is located on a high plateau with an altitude level of 1.200m. The Karwendel Nature Park is the biggest of its kind in the Eastern Alps. Together with the Wildmoos Nature Preserve and the mountain range Wettersteingebirge, the area provides a unique atmosphere. The five villages, Leutasch, Mösern-Buchen, Reith, Scharnitz and Seefeld offer everything – both for sportspeople, families and those who prefer relaxing vacations.

5 tips around the Olympia region Seefeld:

  • Only 15 minutes away from Mösern there is an idyllic mountain lake, Möserersee. With an altitude level of 1.292m it is a perfect place to cool down after climbing. It is easy accessible by car.
  • Hike up to Wetterstein Hut (“Wettersteinhütte”) in the Karwendelgebirge. The scenery is breathtaking, the food at the hut is delicious and highly recommended.
  • The geological circular hiking trail Wallgau (“geologischer Rundwanderweg Wallgau”) is highly recommended to everyone interested in the origins of the Isar and the Karwendelgebirge. It starts at the valley station of Kranzbergbahn in Mittenwald.
  • The alpine bath Leutasch (“Alpenbad Leutasch”) in the heart of the Karwendelgebirge  is a great opportunity to relax after climbing. The sauna is very popular amongst Tiroleans.
  • Last but not least, fishing in Leutasch’s fisheries (“Leutascher Fischerei”)  is one of Tirol’s rare possibilites to cast the fishing rod.
