10 tips for an unforgettable holiday in Ötztal

  • Aqua Dome in Längenfeld is a thermal indoor and outdoor bath. It is recommendable for both kids to riot and grown-ups to relax. Experience the perfect holiday moment!
  • Wild glacier rivers offer various opportunities for watersports from May until October: You can go rafting, canyoning, kayaking or canoeing. For more information, contact the tourism association Ötztal.
  • Tirol’s highest waterfall, Stuibenfall, is located in Umhausen and is 159m high. Walkable platforms and stairs allow to go close up to the waterfalls. The via ferrata Stuibenfall-Klettersteig leads past the waterfall and guarantees a magnificent view onto the deluge of water. In summer, the waterfall is illuminated until 12pm - definitely a worthwhile trip!
  • Both families with kids and seasoned climbers will find suitable climbs in Ötztal. There are four certified climbing gardens which are also convenient for families with children. They are very well maintained. One highly recommended climbing garden is the Oberried, close to Längenfeld, which has both picnic areas and toilets. Don’t forget to bring a change of clothes for your kids - the nearby creek is perfect for playing in the water.
  • The Engels Wall in Tumpen (Engelswand) is perfect for sport climbing in all difficulties. The access is very convenient and the climbing garden also offers several multi pitches.

Experience for old and young

  • The Kids Park in Oetz is a fun experience for kids of every age. With more than 5.000 squaremeters, the park is one of Tirol’s biggest free playgrounds. While kids play in the playground, the parents can enjoy a coffee in the cafe besides from which they can still have an eye on their children.
  • Visit the mountaineer village, Vent. The village is located in the Ötztal Alps. Only 150 people live there - a big contrast to the touristy Sölden. The scenery is stunning as the village is surrounded by multiple mountain peaks over 3.000m. There is also a children’s playground with a water play park.

Taking home some quality vine

  • Are you looking for a holiday souvenir? An insider tip is quality vine of Tirol: For more than 20 years, Peter Zoller and Elisabeth Saumwald have been growing wine in Haiming. One bottle costs between 12 and 16 euros. The wine can also be tasted in several surrounding restaurants.

007 in Sölden

  • Parts of the latest James Bond film, “Spectre”, were filmed in Sölden. In truth, the futuristic Hoffler clinic is the gourmet mountain restaurant, ice Q - a spectacular glass cube at the mountain summit of Gaislachkogl and at an altitude level of 3.048m. The restaurant is highly recommended.

Century-old tradition

  • Droving sheep from the South Tirolean valley, Schnalstal, to the summer pastures in Ötztal has been a tradition for several centuries. In autumn, the 5.000 animals return to Vernagt, where they are expected by their owners. In their honour, a feast is held. In 2011, the sheep migration in the Ötztal Alps was recorded as an intangible cultural heritage by UNESCO. If you are in Ötztal in autumn, don’t miss this spectacle!
